A worn drill rod never lets you down in the yard.

Here’s a quick 5-minute check you can do this week:

5 signs your rods are due for replacement:

1. Worn threads or galling : if the connections aren’t making up clean, they’re on borrowed time.

2. Wall thinning at the box end : run a calliper over them. Wear here is where rods snap.

3. Bent or stretched rods : roll them on a flat surface. Any wobble means trouble downhole.

4. Constant re-torquing : if joints keep working loose, the threads are telling you something.

5. High cycle count : rods that have done serious metres are a risk, even if they look alright.

If you ticked even one of those, it’s worth a chat – because buying before June 30 works in your favour.
